US Mobile subscribers reach 274 million in 2009

March 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Dataxis, the leading market research company based in France, analyses the mobile subscribers growth on a quarterly basis and in the year 2009

According to Dataxis intelligence last updates, USA mobile subscribers reached nearly 273.9 million as of December 2009, up 9% on an annual basis and 4% quarterly. This represents a record quarterly growth since Q109 (see table below)

For net additions, there were more than 22.8 million new subscribers in 2009 of which 10.8 million were added in the fourth quarter only.

As a result, mobile penetration in USA is steadily growing, rising from less than 82% in 2007 to 84% in 2008 and reaches now more than 88% of the country’s population.

In terms of market players, Verizon Wireless is the country’s largest MNO with more than 91 million customers followed by AT&T and Sprint with respectively 85 million and 44.6 million reported subscribers as the end of 2009.
