Well, All The Best On Your Retirement......

How on earth can you afford to retire? An idea to consider.

Now let me see, I'm approaching my fifties, and barring the odd spell of unemployment, I have been lucky enough to be contributing to my pension for most of my adult working years.

But rather than contributing a double digit percentage of my monthly salary to my retirement fund consistently, there have been those occasions when frankly I needed the money for something else. Get the picture? And I rather suspect that my story is a commonly told one.

It's not unreasonable to compare myself with my father, who is well and truly retired and from accountancy stock. The combination of an extremely stable, long term career and some prudent investments now provide him with a monthly income which is well above the national average wage. Of course his biggest liability, the mortgage, was paid off some time ago, so his monthly outgoings are really not that significant any more. So 'hats off' to you Dad, I reckon you can say you cracked it.

Now here's the well documented problem, the average life expectancy continues to rise, which is good, but that also means what we put by for retirement needs to rise, which is bad. What I mean by 'bad', is that its another challenge you probably don't need and would rather not have.

So you have a retirement income, but its not really going to cover all of  the things that you really wanted to be doing post job. Faced with that prospect, what are you going to do? Well you can just carry on and not retire, that's if the decision isn't taken out of your hands! You could supplement your retirement income with a part time job, again working for somebody else's benefit....but were'nt you looking forward to not having to do that?

Actually my point is this! There is another way. I run an internet home business, which I started in my spare time, when I was working for someone else. I now have complete control, and wonder why I didn't start sooner. Your retirement could look very different indeed.
