Jan. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Laptop is not really a replacement for desktops, but a good laptop computer can be a stable and practical addition to a stationary model.

Steps

1. Check periodically surveys computer magazines above for complete information on the effectiveness of specific laptop brand and customer satisfaction for them. Choose a brand based on quality, price and limited warranty.

2. Learn the basic configuration you need, including processor speed and amount of RAM and hard disk size.

3. Decide the type of display. Choose a dual-scan, if your budget is very limited. Select an active-matrix display for the fastest response and best visual quality (especially under difficult conditions), but at the expense of shorter battery life. Select a HPA (High Performance Addressing) display if your budget in the form of an active-matrix display, but you have to use the laptop under difficult lighting and want to maximize battery life.

4. Compare the weight of the device you are considering. Think about how often and how much you need to bring your computer and its peripherals.

5. Determine the size of the screen you want. Note that bigger screens add to the cost per unit weight and bulk.

6. Select an ultraportable unit, whose weight is more important than price, reliability, battery life and easy to use.

7. Buy a unit with built-in CD-ROM and floppy drives, if convenience is more important than portability and reliability. Consider a model with removable internal drives for the most flexibility.

8. Testing comfort and feel of the input device and keyboard. Choose between a touchpad used by most manufacturers, and pointer (also called "command points") used by IBM and Toshiba.

9. Make sure the laptop comes with a lithium-ion battery. Be skeptical of manufacturers' battery-life claims.Choose length of warranty coverage or service you need.
