Sixth Wright Hassall Regency RunThis year’s sixth Wright Hassall Regency Run is set to reach a massive milestone.
The event, which is open to serious athletes and fun runners, is on Sunday, April 11 this year and organisers are hoping the efforts of competitors will help it achieve the landmark of £150,000 raised for good causes. The run, organised by Leamington Round Table, goes over Newbold Comyn and through the streets of Leamington before finishing in Mill Gardens. This year will see 2,000 competitors take part for the first time. Russell Hall, who helped set up the race, said that money was either raised for the Round Table to distribute to local good causes or directly for the charities chosen by entrants. He said: “The event had really grown to be an established part of the Warwickshire calendar and has grown in popularity every year. “As well as fun and club runners we have also had international athletes take part, but underpinning that is the good in the community that the money raised can do. “Again the amount raised goes up each year and it would be great if we could get past the £150,000 mark with this year’s run. It would be a fantastic achievement.” Around 600 runners have already entered the event and it has attracted the maximum runners every year. Leamington law firm Wright Hassall has backed the Regency Run since it first started and senior partner Nick Abell – a regular competitor in the run – said it had proved to be the perfect event for the town. “The Round Table has got the balance exactly right,” he said. “There is room for the top class athlete, the club runner, the person who wants a New Year fitness target and someone who wants to raise funds for a charity. “It is rewarding to see how much good the event has done in the local community and I am sure this year will be as successful as ever.” People can log on to www.regency10k.co.uk or www.wrighthassall.co.uk to enter. Entry forms have also been distributed throughout the Leamington area.
