Parental Internet Software Reviews

Jan. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Many parents might not be aware that the majority of teens and children are exposed to some form of pornography from the internet. Pop-ups, enticing adverstisements, and ads for soft-porn sites can even be found on children's websites and video games, which are played in public school.

As a public school teacher, I have spoken with scores of young people and children who have experienced emotional and psychology stress due to exposure to or addiction to pornography. The majority of parents have not yet taken effective measures to control the Internet in their own home. The place where children are often exposed to pornography is in the home.

Pornography exposure can cause a child's behavior, emotions, and psychological profile to be unstable. Psychologists or psychiatrists at times, are not aware of the child's exposure to pornography, or how it might effect the child's mental health.

Children and young teens are not ready for most types of media-produced sexual misinformation, and it can dominate their thinking when in school, making it difficult for them to concentrate.

Popular websites such as Youtube are saturated with pornography. At times, public schools which are lax, or have lapses in their computer system, can unknowlingly be contributing to this problem, by not having proper controls on their school computers.

Children need to be educated in why pornography is harmful, how to break free from pornography addiction, as well as in sexual matters in general. Additionally, parents and educators need to take measures to educate children on the specifics of the Internet as it relates to this matter, and follow some basic guidelines in Internet use.

1. Keep the computer in a public, not private, place in the home.

2. Educate the child or teen on the use and misuse of the Internet, as well as the harm that pornography addiction can cause on the emotional, mental and spiritual healt of those who become addicted.

3.  Install Parental Internet Control Software on the home computer. This is usually a subscription to a remote control center that must be renewed yearly. The cost is somewhere between $35 and $50. per year.

Parental Internet Control Software can effectively block pornograhpy, innappropirate Youtube content, and allow a parent to monitor and have some control over social networking, text messaging, and similar internet sites and tools.  Parents can either block or monitor social networking.

Effective software allows parents to set time limits, or easily customize their settings to block or allow specific sites.

In the  opinion of the AYCNP, anyone who has children or teens, should have parental internet control software on their computer, in addition to the other steps mentioned above.
