Follow on Google News | Feline’s Meow Trumps Author’s BarkI never like Cats however and, quite frankly, couldn't stand being in the same room with one of those little furry buggers much less living with one. But Patience our Cat has changed all that, and now I enjoy so much that she is living with us.
By: The Munnings Group In his newly released book, From Rescue Shelter To Home Shelter (How a Feline Named Patience Changed My Point-Of-View) “I was always a dog lover and, in fact, have had several dogs when I was a young boy growing up in The Bahamas, but never a Cat” he remembers. “Truth be told, I can’t recall any homes in my old Nassau neighborhood where you were likely to find a dog and a cat living under the same roof” he said. “All my neighbors had dogs and, in some instances, some had as many as three or five pot-cake hounds running around the yard” he recalls. Now adding ‘author’ to his string of achievements over the last twenty five years, this former Broadcast Journalist added, “the only times I heard cats and dogs mentioned in the same breath, so to speak, was whenever Mom was fussing me and my sisters out, many years ago, for arguing or (she would oftentimes say) for behaving like cats and dogs.” Patience, the main character in this 40-page pictorial essay, was rescued from an animal shelter in Maryland (2006) by the Author’s daughter, Indira Mandisa. Nine months later Indira returned to Florida for a short say and, against the wishes of her father, brought Patience along. Although there were many tell-tail signs that Patience was leisurely digging in, the author felt that, being the ‘man of the house’ he had the upper hand and the final say concerning Patience’s future . Thanks to Patience that never happened. As the weeks and months passed Patience and the author’s wife got even closer and had bonded as if she (Patience) was a ‘prodigal’ Furthermore, and by this time the author, who is also a photographer, had already accumulated almost three hundred photographs of Patience. So there were some bonding going on there also (although he was unwilling to admit) between the author as photographer and Patience as his feline Model. This full-color paperback gets even funnier. In addition to the author telling his story, Patience also gets a chance to tell her part of the story too. There are 24 color photographs in this 40-page book each with a description which, in effect, is written as if Patience is telling her side of story, and she’s certainly not coy in the slightest. From Rescue Shelter To Home Shelter has an harmonious ending. The author tells of how he plans his day now forever with Patience in mind, and Patience seems to have fallen for ‘ole fat gut’ which, incidentally, is her pet name for the author.
