FinSoul: Obama’s State of the Union speech will highlight his urgency for a climate bill.

As the State of the Union address to Congress nears, now may be the right time for the U.S. president to show how badly he really wants a global warming policy.

Jan. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- The time for Barack Obama to show his true commitment to establish a meaningful domestic climate change bill may soon be nearing. President Obama, who FinSoul understands played a pivotal role in ironing out the non-binding international Copenhagen Accord in the closing days of 2009, now needs to balance economic and environmental factors and bring promised climate change legislation to reality in 2010.

The feeling among administration officials seems positive that the legislation can be achieved even with the difficulties of this being an election year. "President Obama and this administration ... expect that a comprehensive energy bill, which includes a climate portion, to be passed this year," The U.S. Energy Secretary recently told reporters.

FinSoul believes that a spokesman for the Centre for American Progress indicated that Obama needed to concentrate his focus on job creation as a basis for building the bill around, creating a U.S. economy that would run more on alternative energy than CO2 emitting fossil fuels.  "The more specifics the better" in the State of the Union speech, he added.

President Obama recently launched a new tax aimed at encouraging investments into clean energy development that he believed would help combat climate change and create jobs.

"This initiative is good for middle-class families. It is good for our security. It is good for our planet," FinSoul believes the president was quoted as saying.

At present, the House-passed climate change bill is mired in the Senate, where Barack Obama needs to convince 60 out of 100 members to support the legislation.
