Jan. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- During the process of going for a drug and alcohol treatment, we have to look for the right kind of rehabilitation center that addresses the severity of the problem in the best manner possible.  There are different types of drug and alcohol therapy, with varying lengths of treatment and costs. So how do you know which treatment is better or how does it stand against the other one.
Let us look at some of the famous drug and alcohol therapies
1.    Detox program:  Detoxification is not a drug treatment per se; however it cleanses the body and mind of any kind of toxins.  In fact, this step gains precedence before the actual treatment. There is something known as ‘supervised detox’ for long term alcohol addicts or prescription drug addicts
2.   Intervention Therapy: Intervention therapy or Brief therapy is a short duration program that is known to be quite effective.  This is not technically for addicts but for a person who has a fling with alcohol or a drug, and looks like he is going to be caught in the loop. So this ‘intervention’[ therapy’ in the form of alcohol class or drug addiction therapy classes that last for a few weeks,  helps the person come out of a ‘could have been an addict’ scenario.
3.   Inpatient Treatment:  This is the classic drug rehabilitation center, residential in nature with programs that are in the form of an entire’s day activities. The drug and alcohol treatment in inpatient treatment setting lasts from a month to a year. It is a thorough treatment program with functionalities that can handle every aspect of addiction like physical health, mental health, emotional and spiritual well being. The only disadvantage is that the inpatient program is not covered by insurance and can be on the costlier side.
4.   Outpatient program: This is a non-residential program that needs an addict to attend individual counseling or group therapy once or twice a week.  This program is good for someone who is on the verge of being an addict and not totally enslaved by substance abuse
5.   Intensive Outpatient Program: This kind of program comprises of 16-24 hours of individual and group based therapy every week.  This form of therapy is not as costly as the ‘inpatient treatment’ one but is apt for treating an addict. In fact, some people use outpatient program as an extension to the inpatient program. The outpatient program is not as costly and is covered by insurance
6.   Faith based drug and alcohol treatment program: Faith based programs have a spiritual side to them. Here addicts are made to pray and seek for divine help to cure their suffering and addiction. The treatment is holistic in nature, with the program based on soul-searching and soul-cleansing. Through Bible reading, spiritual approach and regular prayers, an addict is motivated to achieve higher, spiritual goals in life and break away from addictions of alcohol and drugs.

All of the above method and therapies for drug and alcohol treatment are quite productive and have been found to be quite useful in their own special manner.
