Dec. 6, 2009 - PRLog -- Investors should take greater precautions in foreign currency trades – says Seattle management consultant Terry Corbell – following scandals in which thousands of investors have been duped out of millions of dollars.

“The predatory players and events are different but the principles are the same,” says the business consultant and columnist (http://www.bizcoachinfo.com). “Just like a business, due diligence and competent research are required for Forex success.”

In Q4, major predatory events have come to light. The Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) had to go to court to freeze the assets of a Minneapolis money manager who allegedly soaked more than 1,000 investors for $190 million. Canadian officials in British Columbia accused Horizon FX of bilking investors out of $34 million.

“Every investor wants to emulate the success George Soros, but remember he does complete his due diligence,” says Mr. Corbell. “You never hear about him being victimized.”

He advises Forex investors to fully analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. He says to consider three basic threats: Questionable Forex brokers, inadequate software and listening to the wrong people.

As a longtime business columnist and with more than 30 years experience, Mr. Corbell is a member of the Society of Amerian Business Editors and Writers (SABEW).

In addition, Mr. Corbell’s full-service management services firm has provided confidential solutions for Seattle area executives and companies, the public sector and nonprofits since 1992. Not only does he read the numbers, he accomplishes what he calls "reading the room." He provides both short and long-term solutions after determining how and why the company is stumbling.

“Not to criticize, many accountants crunch the numbers but they don't fully understand what actions are required to improve the financials,” he says. “For example, many will recommend slashing the marketing budget, which might not be the right area to cut back and history shows it should be the last resort.”

His nine-point financial turnaround program, on a pay-for-performance basis, includes:

• Maintaining optimism
• Developing a results-oriented SWOT analysis
• Written plan for marketing/sales and operations (update as warranted)
• Getting everyone on the same page – key employees and board
• Managing cash flow
• Targeting the right customers in the right way
• Communicating with vendors and employees
• Taking responsibility with vendors, tax officials
