The Wizard of Palm Beach asks: What do Clogged Dryer Vents and Old X-Mas Lights have in Common?

The answer is both dryer vents and Christmas lights can be a fire hazard

Nov. 26, 2009 - PRLog -- Palm Beach, FL – Dryer vent cleaning is the number one way to prevent dryer fires.  Dryer Vent Wizard and the NFPA have written and published all kinds of articles and blogs to promote consumer awareness of the importance of dryer vent maintenance to prevent dryer fires.

Horatio Chiorean, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard franchise in Palm Beach, Florida wants to wish everyone a happy, safe holiday season.  Horatio can never say enough about dryer vent cleaning; however, he is speaking today on another important holiday safety issue…Christmas Lights.

“Like dryer vents, Christmas lights are also a fire hazard that many people are not aware of or they just don’t give it much thought.  Old Christmas lights with frayed cords and broken sockets can overheat and cause a devastating fire.”

Horatio and all Dryer Vent Wizard franchisees wish to provide the following holiday decorating tips to consumers:

Choose lights that are safety tested by a reputable laboratory, for example UL (Underwriters Laboratories) or ETL (Electrical Testing Laboratories).  This information will be noted on the packaging the lights come in if they are deemed safe by these laboratories.

Use the mini lights; the older style, larger bulbs burn much hotter.  Choose lights that have fuses in the plugs.

Check your lights before hanging them each year; look for broken sockets, loose connections and frayed or bare wire.

Check the wattage when replacing burned out bulbs.

For outdoor decorating, check the package to be sure the lights can be used outdoors.  Plug outdoor decorations into a GFCI outlet and secure lights with insulated holders, not tacks or nails.  Read Horatio’s blog at http://dryerventcleaningdelraybeach.blogspot.com/ for more fire safety tips.

In joining efforts with the NFPA, Dryer Vent Wizard is providing advice to consumers to minimize the risk of dryer fires and holiday decoration fires.  Horatio provides dryer vent cleaning, dryer vent repair, dryer vent installation for homes and businesses in Palm Beach County, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Broward County, Coral Springs, Tamarac, Sunrise, Plantation, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, and neighboring cities and communities.  Visit http://www.dryerventwizard.com to learn more.
