Nov. 24, 2009 - PRLog -- -   80% of singletons use online dating
-   GSOH is the number one sought after attribute
-   60% of daters think a good personality is crucial compared to 0.8% who look for good sex

Online dating is the UK’s most popular method of meeting a new partner, according to the results of a new survey carried out by forcespenpals.co.uk - a leading social networking and relationships website for members of the armed forces.

forcespenpals.co.uk questioned over 500 people on their dating habits and experiences, and found that more than 80% have tried online dating in a bid to meet their dream man or woman, while just 11% have used speed dating. 29% have been set up on blind dates, while 2% of people admitted to trying swinging as a way of meeting new people.

The survey also revealed a good sense of humour as the number one attribute daters look for in a partner, followed closely by affection and kind-heartedness.

When it comes to developing a relationship with a new partner, almost 60% of respondents claimed that getting to know a persons personality was most important, while 22% thought that a shared sense of humour was crucial. 11% maintained that common interests are most significant while just 0.8% place any importance on sex.

Bruno Mustone, managing director of forcespenpals.co.uk said; “With 70% of UK households now having access to the Internet *[Source:ONS], it is no surprise that online dating has increased in popularity. With such a vast choice of dating sites available users can choose to meet people with similar interests, giving them a much better chance of forming a solid relationship than if they were to meet somebody in a pub or club.

“The Internet enables daters to meet people around the World, rather than just from their local area, increasing their chances or meeting Mr or Miss Right. Online daters also face much less pressure than face-to-face daters as they can chat online for as long as they feel necessary, really getting to know each other before the first date has even taken place.”

forcespenpals.co.uk has over 100,000 active members who are looking for friendship or romance. Launched in 2003 the site was set up to provide members of the armed forces with a way to meet people outside the military environment whether at home or on operations.

People who want to write to serving members of the armed forces can register at www.forcespenpals.co.uk.
