ACS London excels in huge crew movements

Air Charter Service organised two flights carrying owners and crew of the world's largest cruise ship during and after its maiden voyage.

Nov. 19, 2009 - PRLog -- Jon Thompson, Commercial Sales Director ACS London, recently helped with the world’s largest cruise liner as it made its test voyage from Finland to Southampton and then onwards to its new home in the Caribbean.

Jon arranged a B737-800 to carry some of the workers and some of the owners back to Finland after it docked in Southampton. The ship then set sail for America. Once in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Jon arranged another aircraft – this time a transatlantic charter – to fly the remaining workers and shipyard owners to Finland as well.

Jon commented: “Because of the nature of the trip, and the incredibly bad weather in the Atlantic, the ship’s docking time was constantly changing, so it was tricky getting everything in place. We attended the departures of both flights and even arranged things such as obtaining permission for the coach to park immediately outside the terminal entrance as it was raining – to save our passengers getting wet! Even though the planning was frantic due to the last minute nature, both flights left exactly to the minute they were scheduled to.”

The ship will start commercial work at the beginning of December and the workers were making sure that the final finishing touches were in place.
