Oct. 26, 2009 - PRLog -- There was a time when furniture was made to accommodate only the most basic utilitarian needs, but that time is now past as local companies, like Demex Rattancraft, Inc., manufacture original pieces that are driven as much by inspiration as by function.

Blending beauty, class, and utility, Demex will show off its designs at the 31st Japan Home and Building Show in Tokyo, Japan on November 11-13, 2009.

What started out as a family business in 1974 that traded rattan and abaca handicrafts evolved into Demex Rattancraft when Mr. Narciso Dela Merced took over the business as President in the late 1980s.

Dealing primarily with rattan, known for its versatility that allows it to be formed into any shape or size, its product line includes medium to high-end furniture and accessories that can be used either indoors or outdoors: living room and dining room sets, vases, jars, lamps, and planters, among others.

Of these, Demex’ rattan jars like the Alaisa Jar Vase, Carissa Jar Vase, and the Sarah Jar Vase, are the bestsellers. Standing in the middle ground between ethnic and modern, these are laminated in different shades such as fruitwood, red mahogany, and walnut.

With styles that range from the traditional to the contemporary, Demex’ designs increasingly reflect a move towards a classic, cleaner-looking, and simpler philosophy – a trend it attributes to its exposure to international trade fairs and current exporting experience to countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and Japan, as well as past exports to European nations such as Spain, Germany, and the Netherlands.

“We try to make our products difficult to manufacture, as well as maintain a quality standard that cannot be equaled,” said Mr. Dela Merced.

More than this commitment to originality and excellence, the fact that the company utilizes sustainable and renewable materials in manufacturing its products already is a plus for Demex. On top of saving rapidly vanishing natural resources, it is also shifting to non-formaldehyde paints that are more eco-friendly,

Freshness, innovation, and eco-compliance may just be the ticket for Demex as it joins nine other Philippine companies to the JHBS, namely: Coast Pacific Manufacturing Corporation, Chemrez Technologies, Inc., EZ Rocks Co., Inc., GT Stoneworks, Nakayama Technology Corporation, Nature’s Legacy Eximport, Inc., Piedra Systems, Inc., Teresa Marble, and Venus Crafts Corporation.
The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), an attached agency of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), leads the Philippine participation in the 2-day event.
