New Book Helps Groton Celebrate 150 Years

Local author recalls Groton’s fascinating past through historic photographs.

Oct. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- In 2010, the Village of Groton will be celebrating its 150th anniversary and the 145th anniversary of the First National Bank of Groton.

As a dedication to the village’s past, town historian Rosemarie Palmer Tucker has compiled over 200 vintage photographs to bring readers on a nostalgic journey down memory lane.

Tucker hopes the book will “reminisce about Groton’s days gone by.  It will also be beneficial to school children as they study local history.”

Profit from the book will be used to fund future books, booklets and/or brochures relating to the history of Groton.

Highlights of Groton:
•Features photographs both public and private collections
•Showcases the residents who have made Groton what it is today
•Includes the hamlets of Groton City, McLean, Peruville and West Groton

Rosemarie Palmer Tucker has lived in Groton for most of her life and graduated from Groton Central School in 1966. She is the historian for the Town of Groton and was appointed by the Groton Town Board in 2001. She has been a member of the Association of Public Historians of New York State (APHNYS) since 2001 and the secretary of APHNYS since 2006.
