How to Replace a Thinkpad X60

Oct. 12, 2009 - PRLog -- The Lenovo ThinkPad X60 is a laptop designed to give a moderate amount of hard drive space and computing power in a small and portable package. The X60 is meant primarily for web surfing and word document processing, although it does also have some capabilities for gaming. If your X60 is no longer working, or if it's just simply time for an upgrade, there are many different options available to you for a new laptop.

     Assess your current computing needs to decide if you want to replace your ThinkPad X60 with the exact same model or an upgraded model. Take into account the amount of hard drive space you used on your original X60 and if you need extra space for more data.

     Consider an upgraded ThinkPad model with more space than the 80 gigabyte hard drive included on the X60. Go with an option such as the X200 or T400 series, which both start with 160 gigabytes of hard drive space, if you need more storage room.

     Take stock of the minimum system requirements of any software programs you plan to install in the future. Check to see if any of them require more than the 512 megabytes of RAM included on the ThinkPad X60.

     Pick a newer model such as the ThinkPad X301, which has 2 gigabytes of RAM, if you will be using software with higher RAM requirements.

     Consider if you need the ability to burn DVDs, which is a feature that the ThinkPad X60 does not offer. Go with a new laptop such as the Thinkpad SL400 if you want a DVD burner instead of just a DVD-ROM for viewing DVDs.

     Decide if you need the smaller size and increased portability offered by most of the ThinkPad models. Choose a different brand that offers larger laptops, and correspondingly larger hardware capabilities, if you don't need your laptop to be as light as a ThinkPad.

     Check the listings of discount retailers such as Newegg, Amazon, or even eBay once you have made a decision (see Resources). It may be possible for you to find your selected laptop at a highly reduced price than what you will find directly through the manufacturer or a computer store.
