Oct. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- The state consists of mountains, desert and miles of coastline each contributing to their reputation of fun and luxury.  Californians work hard and play harder.

With this reputation come some interesting state and city laws.  Recently, they passed the Wireless Communication Device Law, making it illegal to write, send or read text messages while driving.  With all the traffic that comes along with the largest population, the law is there to protect the citizens and visitors to the state.  If you are driving through California, be sure to watch out!  It is also illegal to smoke in all public spaces in California.  California law prohibits smoking in restaurants, government building, even bars and casinos.  If you plan on staying at a hotel, make sure you have a smoking room, because you can be fined for smoking in a non-smoking room.

These laws actually make sense for the public safety and health of individuals and those surrounding them.  There are some laws, however, nor making much sense at all, but are still laws in the state of California.  Some laws make you wonder why they have recorded a law that controls the uncontrollable.  For example, there is a law on record guaranteeing sunshine.  Also, it is illegal for animals to mate within 1500 feel of a tavern, school or place of worship.  How can such laws be enforced?  Who has to pay the price of rain in the state?  How do they control where an animal mates? http://www.abovethelaw.info/

Some laws in the state seem ridiculous, but you know there was some person out there that caused the law to be in existence, and there was probably some insane circumstance for these things to be illegal.  The law banning women from driving in their house coats is an interesting example.  Also, there is a law claiming that vehicles without a driver should not exceed more than 60 miles-per-hour.  I guess someone should put some signs up for the runaway cars on the steep streets of San Francisco.  They have also specified that it is illegal to shoot any animals from a moving vehicle unless it is a whale.  Whales beware in California! http://www.abovethelaw.info/california-lawyers/

Certain cities have even more stringent laws.  In Baldwin Park, you are not allowed to ride your bicycle in a swimming pool, and in Chico, it’s a $500 fine for setting off a nuclear device.  I could probably believe there was a group of kids daring each other to ride their bikes in the swimming pool and then someone drowned.  It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.  However, how are these people getting access to nuclear devices, and if they are able to afford or obtain them, wouldn’t the $500 fine just be a drop in the hat to them?

All states have those laws that make you wonder how there was ever a circumstance that they needed to put the law on the book.  Maybe some stories we will never know.  It’s fun to think about the people involved and the occasion surrounding these circumstances.  It’s all just part of the wild and crazy United States where we live.
