Taking the 'Severe' Out of Severe Weather
PuroClean Home Rescue helps Sacrameto-area residents prepare their homes for heavy rains, winds and other severe weather this season

Sacramento, CA (Newswire) October 2, 2009 -- When thunderstorms and other severe weather storms have entered your community, there is little time for you to find ways to prevent your property from being damaged. However, if you are prepared ahead of time, there are several precautions you can take to make sure that when a storm does hit, both you and your home are protected.

Experts say this time of year is when weather is prone to be more severe. Professional mitigation companies, such as PuroClean, respond to property damage emergencies and say that a little preparation can go a long way.  Therefore, Daniel Camara of PuroClean Home Rescue offers some advice for Sacramento-area residents on how to prepare for dangerous weather before it hits the local area this summer.

"Weather is tricky – it can cause little harm or it can cause extreme harm. As experts in property damage, mitigation, and restoration services, we feel that it's never too early to prepare for what could potentially be severe weather," Camara said, suggesting the following helpful tips for Sacramento residents to protect themselves and their homes from severe weather damage:

. Have a professional check the structural integrity of your roof to see if it can sustain heavy weight from the accumulation of water, in case the drains do not work.
. Have check valves installed in sewer traps to prevent flood water from backing up through the drains into your home.
. Seal walls in basements with waterproofing compounds to avoid seepage.
. Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts, and be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed.
. Remove dead or rotting trees and branches that could fall and cause injury or damage during a severe storm.

"No matter what kind of weather damage you are preparing for, it is imperative that you have a plan," Camara said. "By knowing your property's vulnerability and taking action before the weather comes your way, you are saving yourself a lot of heartache and pain – and saving yourself a lot of money."
