| Keeping Your Workstation in Top Shape!One of the main keys to maintain your POS computers running smoothly is regularly cleaning them. You may not notice, but spills and dusts can affect your computers ruining the POS systems.
It's Spring cleaning time for your PC! Just think about it – Can't remember how long has it been since the last time you cleaned your PC? Deleted old files from your pc? If you can’t remember, you are most likely due for a cleaning. Don’t worry, there are other people who do not have the spare time set aside to clean their computer, but they do have the time to notice that their computer is slowing down. The regular cleaning of your PC and its parts, especially since most are in a restaurant environment, can keep your system running perfectly and help protect you from unwanted problems. This can also get your restaurant Point of Sale system up and working the way it should be. Here are some advices for spring cleaning: 1. Start with your mouse. No one ever suspects the little guy, but your mouse could hold many kind of harmful bacteria that may cause illness. Use a proper amount of cleaning solution on a lint free cloth to clean the mouse every few weeks. If other people, using your PC, are getting ill because of it, then you might want to consider cleaning your PC more than the usual. 2. Next is your keyboard. Keyboards collect a lot of extras from you – little crumbs of food, dust from papers going across the desk, and most of the times even dirty unwashed hands on the keyboard. Getting your keyboard cleaned is not hard as it seems, first turn off your computer, unplug all wires and take your keyboard to a trash can. Turn it upside down, to prevent it from falling to the ground, and lightly shake it or use compressed air to remove any dirt or deposits hiding between the keys. After getting rid of the debris from around the keys, use cotton {swabs|buds} 3. Clean your PC. The actual computer component that your monitor, keyboard and mouse plug in to is either a tower or desktop unit. These units can astonishingly collect vast amount of dust and debris, especially if they are placed on the floor. Did you just look down at your tower baffled? If so, then it's definitely time for a spring cleaning! With the same lint free and cleaning solution, start wiping down the outside vents and around the connections. The key is to make sure you get as much dust as you can out of the vents. The more dust is in there, the more likely your computer is going to overheat. 4. Dumping old useless files. Can't remember how long has it been since you visited the recycle bin and emptied its content? The recycle bin temporarily stores your trashed files before they are permanently removed from your PCs hard drive. To empty the recycle bin, simply right click on the “trashcan” 5. Clear the cache. Another disk space hog can be temporary internet files that have never been deleted. To simply delete temporary internet files within Microsoft Internet Explorer, open IE, click on Tools -> Internet Options. Under the Browsing History section, you will see a button labeled “ Delete…". Click it and you will see several choices like Temporary Inter Files, Cookies, History, Form data and Passwords, which you can delete whenever you want. Below is a brief description each choices under the Browsing History section: Temporary Internet Files – Deleting the temporary internet files will remove copies of webpages, images and media that are saved on your PC for {faster|quick} Cookies – Deleting the cookies will remove the files stored on your PC by websites to save preferences such as login information. History – Deleting the history will remove all websites you have visited. Form Data – This will delete any saved information that you have typed into forms. Password – This will delete any passwords that are automatically filled in when you log on to a website you’ve previously visited. There is also a Delete All button that will clear all of the above.
