By: Donna Nichols Bittelli’s innovative album, Libera, is a collection of nine original jazz tunes written over the course of a 10-year period and recorded in 2007. “The songs on this CD are lyrical melodies, ballads and jazz tunes laid over grooving rhythms with American and Mediterranean roots,” Bittelli said. “I was influenced by Italian folk tradition, where songs are often written beginning to end without repeating parts. “ While Bittelli’s compositions are unique, his guitar work is also imaginative, especially when combined with jazz saxophonist Horace Alexander Young, the featured special guest on this album and who jointly composed “Something to Remember.” Instrumentation also includes Charles Argersinger (piano), David Snider (bass), David Jarvis (drums) and Ruth Boden (cello). The result is a collection of innovative, original jazz compositions inspired both by the Mediterranean and Latin rhythms Bittelli was raised on and the dynamic American jazz scene he has embraced.
