Connecting foreign suppliers with Russian distributors is what Mamkina and her staff at Nexus are doing for their clients. "Foreign products and services flow into Russia through Russian distributors," "Each of our clients is unique," says Mamkina. "We take each one as an individual and base our work upon their individual needs." The first step is to identify who is already in the market. This includes both foreign companies and Russian companies. Nexus provides either a short scan or a more detailed market report depending on the wishes of the client. Nexus listens to the client to understand what requirements the client has for potential distributors in Russia. With this information Nexus can take full advantage of its vast experience, contacts and marketing instruments to locate the companies and distributors which meet the client’s requirements. When a list of distributors is complete Nexus collects the necessary contact information for the people with authority to make decisions and actions that will benefit the client. "We directly make the introduction of our clients and create the foundation for our clients to negotiate," Mamkina says. "Nothing is gained if they are not speaking to a person of authority. Our function is to open this door." Nexus clients receive a detailed form containing the information collected on behalf of the client, and Nexus staff estimates their situation. "My staff is the best available in my opinion," Mamkina says with a hint of pride. "If we see an opportunity to benefit our client we will recommend and arrange a trade mission or presentation, perhaps an exhibition that we consider will be successful." Most foreign companies do not maintain a Russian office, and to open one is a large expense that Mamkina and her Nexus staff think is unnecessary. "We offer our clients the opportunity to communicate and keep correspondence through our Russian office, and to consult with our staff. We can provide full assistance during negotiations to help make the best deal, or just give advice when it is required," Mamkina continues. "We speak the language and understand the business mindset."
