Aug. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- Plants have an enormous role in benefiting human psychological welfare and mental health. Recent research commissioned by the RSPB underlines a strong link between physical health and a natural environment which is shown to reduce human aggressive tendencies and has calming effects. By using plants inside and outside the workplace, can significantly improve physical and emotional stress in individuals. Staff not only feel better, they perform better therefore increasing productivity and reducing absentee rates. Support for mental health during these economic times is ever more welcomed as individuals in businesses struggle to deal with the emotional impact of job insecurity and recession.

Organised by SCI’s Horticulture Group, the ‘Plants to the Rescue’ meeting will highlight the importance of plants and well planned environments in the workplace, in recreational health and in the community to encourage emotional well being and increase business productivity.

Dr. William Bird, Natural Health Advisor to Natural England an eminent advocate of plants supporting people in these contexts, will provide the keynote address. Subsequent speakers will address the value of natural environments in society, community cohesion and in office, town and city planning.

This meeting is for anyone interested in the use of plants to improve human health.
