July 27, 2009 - PRLog -- TLC Mobility Foundation created the Differently Abled Toy Drive to make gift-giving easier for donators, as well as provide children with special needs fun and learning toys based upon their specific special needs.

Choosing toys, specifically for children with special needs, can be an overwhelming experience. All to often children with special needs receive stuffed animals and clothing because friends and family do not know what else to get - knowing that to a child this gift can be almost as disappointing. One in 12 children in the U.S. have a special need tied to one or more cognitive, communicative, physical, or sensory disability categories.

The Differently Abled Toy Drive makes it easier to purchase toys on the computer by going online at www.tlcmobility.org. Through the use of the Internet, we minimize or eliminate some of the most significant cost – staff, gas, storage, and shipping, says Lisa Hamilton-Johnson, President of TLC Mobility Foundation. Donators do not need to go to the store, bring them anywhere, or worry about shipping. Once the toys are purchased online all toys automatically go directly to the foundation. The toys are bulk-purchased by the foundation and given to children based on their cognitive, communicative, physically, and/or sensory needs.

Now in its’ second year, the Differently-Abled Toy Drive kick-off is October 1 through December 17th. The public can contribute by purchasing a toy (or two) online at www.tlcmobility.org. For those who may not be computer users or the computer is just not convenient, for as little as $1 a donation card can be purchased at the Boca Conference & Executive Center or call 561.929.8950 for the nearest participating location. The conclusion of the toy drive campaign ends with a community party to promote the participation and involvement for all children, which includes: storytelling, face painting, Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus, and arts & crafts are some of the many activities planned.

We use advocacy, transportation services, and positive memories to promote the inclusion of children and adults with disabilities and those without disabilities into family, work and community life — creating richer experiences for everyone.
