July 26, 2009 - PRLog -- So you want to get married, but you don’t want to have to go through the requirements that your church has. You know… the mandatory counseling sessions, the pre-picked out non-personal ceremony, the restrictions that you have for music, etc. and you want to find the perfect wedding officiant. What do you do?

Well most brides and grooms start searching on the Internet, which is probably how you found this page. You don’t want the rules and regulations that seem to go with getting married and we understand that completely.

So what do you do?

*** You start searching.
***You attend meet and greets to find the perfect minister. Maybe you don’t want a typical old preacher man. You want a fresh and younger person with a different outlook. Or you want a typical old preacher man but without all the hassles that come with getting married in a regulated environment. Either way, do you research!
*** Don’t settle!! If you know what you want, then why would you not go after it? Your wedding day is the most important day of your life. If you settle, you will always think “what if.” Don’t do that on your wedding day!
**** Pick a minister who matches your personality and can work with you. If you want a personalized ceremony, find a preacher who will do this! If you want a traditional ceremony, find a minister who will do this. It’s your day, and you need to be able to work with this someone for at least a couple of months. If you can’t get along, or you feel uncomfortable, get out!
***Don’t let cost deter you from a minister that you REALLY like. If you are willing to pay someone $1500 bucks to play crappy 80’s dance tunes for 4 hours, then really think about where your money for your wedding is going. A good minister may be cheap, but they may not. (Our prices are VERY reasonable!) Make sure that you budget wisely for the minister that you choose.
*** Make sure your officiant is legally authorized to recognize your marriage. In the State of Michigan, anyone who is authorized or ordained can do so. Not every state does this or realizes this. Do your homework to save yourself time and money in the long run. (And possible legal hassles too!)
*** An officiant has a HUGE impact on your wedding; after all they do most of the readings, responses, and set the tone. If you don’t like the voice, mannerisms, or anything else about the officiant, you will remember this for the rest of your life. Make sure you choose someone who you can see and hear comfortably and be comfortable with.
