The roots of VSU stem from Yuryev (Derpt) University in Estonia. It was established as early as as 1802 following a decree of Russian Emperor Alexander I.

Voronezh State Technical University was established in 1956. Now it is one of the biggest technical higher educational institutions of Russia. The training of specialists in the VSTU is based on the principle of combination of fundamental universal and polytechnic education.627 teachers including 82 Doctors of Science (Professors), 335 candidates of science (readers) work at 40 department of the University. 1914. Establishment of Voronezh Teacher Training Institute.
VSPU employs 496 persons, including 37 professors and doctors of science, 215 associated professors and candidates, 3 honored workers of science.         Voronezh Technological Institute

It was founded in 1930. It was the first engineering Institution in the city. The teachers were to train engineers for starch and treacle, sugar, fermentation and spirit industry, to carry out the scientific researches, elaboration of new technologies and equipment.
In 1975 the Institute started the training of foreign students from all over the world. And in 1994 Voronezh Technological Institute acquired the status of the Academy. Now this is  Voronezh State Academy of Technology.The Academy's library, occupying 1583 square meters, at present houses over 818000 holdings. The number of readers is more than 9000. The library collection includes a variety of materials, chiefly in sciences, food and chemistry technology, computer aided management, machinery for the food and chemistry industries, economy and industrial administration. Students may borrow books from any of the library's three departments: science literature, fiction literature and instruction literature.
Voronezh State Agricultural University after K.D.Glinka (VSAU), the first institute of higher education in the Central Black Soil Region of Russia, is approaching to celebrate its 90-th anniversary. It was founded in 1912 as the Voronezh Agricultural Institute of the Emperor Peter I. Since then, over 70 000 highly qualified specialists in agriculture have been trained for Russia and foreign countries.
