July 20, 2009 - PRLog -- The pH Miracle diet is one of the most popular diets today. According to health experts, popular diets have a wave-like trend. In the 90's low-fat diets were the in thing, then came the low-carb diets like Sugarbusters, Protein Power, the South Beach Diet and the very popular Atkins diet. However, people tend to always be on the lookout for new diets and currently the pH Miracle diet is gaining popularity fast.

The reason why the pH Miracle diet is so popular lies in its different approach to nutrition. It is also known as the alkaline or Young diet,
so called because it was created by Dr. Robert Young. Unlike the high-protein, low carbohydrate diets of the past decade, the pH Miracle diet focuses on the true nutritional needs of the body and many holistic doctors and nutritionists approve of it.

The pH levels in the human body is somewhat alkaline and according to medical theories, to keep it at this level, our diet should mostly consist of alkaline foods. Processed foods, caffeine and sugar, and animal proteins are amongst the most popular foods in the normal American diet today, but these foods are all considered acidic. They interrupt the normal pH balance of the body and can cause a myriad of health problems. Followers of the pH Miracle diet further claims that acidic foods also interfere with the body's use of alkaline minerals such as sodium, calcium, magnesium and potassium. This in turn lowers the immune system and people are more susceptible to chronic diseases.

Nutritionists and people concerned about their health are realizing that a person's overall health are vastly affected by what goes into their bodies. The medical society places a lot of value on a balanced diet that includes fresh fruit and vegetables as well as dairy products and meat. The pH miracle diet states that many of these acidic foods can destroy the important minerals needed for good health and should be avoided at all costs.

There are many common foods that are not allowed on the pH Miracle diet. Even thought whole-wheat products are all recommended by the FDA for good health, surprisingly grains like wheat, millet, rice and oats are considered as acidic and harmful to one's health. However, buckwheat, quinoa and spelt are allowed, as they are known as alkaline grains.

The pH Miracle diet does not include meat and dairy products. Taking goat milk that is somewhat alkaline as well as tofu, certain seeds, nuts and beans that normally falls under vegetarian foods provides the necessary proteins. Grapefruit, lime, lemon and coconut are the only fruits that can be eaten. As most vegetables have alkalizing effects, they can be freely added to the pH Miracle diet, however mushrooms should not be taken.

People who have tried the pH Miracle diet claimed that they could feel huge changes in their overall health within the first few weeks. It is considered to be healthy for everybody to lower his or her intake of refined foods and to add more vegetables and fruit to the diet, even if they are not on the pH Miracle diet.

We should keep in mind that the theories behind the pH Miracle diet have not been tested scientifically. Many general medical practitioners have also stated that they do not see any benefits to this diet. The pH Miracle diet is however based on both holistic and Chinese medicine that has been used for centuries. Dr. Neil Solomon of the United Nations as well as the John Hopkin's University are currently studying the principles behind the pH Miracle diet. It may be possible that in the near future, many of the critics of this diet will have to change their thinking about the scientific value of the pH Miracle diet.
