July 16, 2009 - PRLog -- A new BBC radio documentary focuses on the crisis-torn Royal Agricultural Show in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, scheduled for next week.

“Britain's most prestigious agricultural event has been the showcase for the farming industry for 160 years, but the Royal show hasn't made a profit in more than two decades. It's been the victim of foot and mouth, atrocious weather and bluetongue,” explains the BBC.

It seems that the decline and imminent demise of the RAC is not a true barometer of the recession, however. The show also reported that numbers attending County shows, themselves rather upmarket affairs with high admission charges to match, are well up on last year.

With agriculture shows it seems the market has changed – the  trend for farmers and country folk has been migration away from the centre and out towards more local regions over the past 20 years. And the attendances are strongly up this year – in a recession.
