July 4, 2009 - PRLog -- June 02, 2009 – It is very tragic that Plasmon UDO users have been left scrambling on rectifying the mess left by the Plasmon debacle. Since Plasmon has had to suspend business, many environments have been seeking third parties on contract maintenance and service support.

For customers with legacy data, Phantom Data Systems earlier this year offered two solutions. First, standard HSM software can manage a direct attached library and support both the UDF and Diamond file systems from Plasmon in addition to new hardware you select, preventing the need to migrate data. The data can also be migrated instead of managed in dual mode. For Plasmon Archive Appliance customers or customers wishing to migrate their data to newer storage technology, Phantom Data will provide a tool, which seamlessly migrates data from your current system to the new Blu ray archive.

“Unfortunately, vendors that don't realize the industry has undergone a metamorphosis into a collaboratively competitive environment only risk isolation. That’s what happened to Plasmon” said Alani Kuye, President of Phantom Data Systems Inc of Norwalk, Connecticut. "Proprietary systems run the risk of leaving customers holding the bag when such vendors go out of business. Regardless of who picks up the pieces, the damage has been done. Blu Ray is currently the standard and the adoption rate across the board has been tremendous. With built - in DVD and CD backwards compatibility into the Blu Ray platform our customers now have the cross functional non proprietary storage and archival solution they have been looking for. UDO was the exact opposite of this. RVI being a very powerful solution also supports the Powerfile A3 Blu Ray libraries which are a part of our solution offering as well" continued Alani Kuye.

This new feature will allow customers to connect the migratory product to their existing Plasmon MO or UDO optical library as well as a new Blu-Ray optical library. Once the libraries are configured the customer can select the migration feature to automatically copy all their existing data over to industry standard UDF Blu-Ray format. They can select between disc-to-disc copy, many MO/UDO discs to one Blu-Ray disc, or they can copy all the existing MO/UDO discs to one large volume

"Now is the time for systems administrators, CIOs and CFOs to be proactive. Those who chose to hold on to this technology using third party entities run the risk of a potential data catastrophe in a few months. A defunct entity is a defunct entity and the damage has been done no matter who picks up the debris. If you have a UDO or MO system from Plasmon running the IBM iSeries for RVI (Real Vision Imaging) Document Management and are wondering how to move forward, We have the solution." added Alani Kuye.

With a solid presence in the financial, government, research and healthcare spaces, Phantom Data Systems has been leading the charge in cleaning up the optical storage space. Thereby ensuring a consistent shake out among vendors looking for a market share and vendors simply hoping for a play in the same space. The company recently embarked on a full scale technical deployment of both MAC, Windows, LINUX, UNIX and Solaris based technical resources to ensure standardized usability on all optical storage systems among the aforementioned platforms. "We have to create a standard. We simply got tired of the greedy so called "industry leaders" with no other interest but to control the space" continued Alani Kuye.

Phantom Data Systems continues to lead the adoption of platform agnostic storage systems while bolstering the adoption of open source systems in the enterprise space.
