July 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Ponte Vedra Beach, FL — On Independence Day, Doctors on Strike for Freedom in Medicine will take on the mission of preserving, protecting, and promoting freedom in healthcare. Their web site (www.doctorsonstrike.com) states that this new nonprofit organization’s most urgent goal is to mobilize doctors to go on strike against any new government-run healthcare plans. Their long-term objective is to supply healthcare providers with the intellectual ammunition required to win the “philosophical war” against statism in medicine.

The founding of Doctors on Strike coincides with the 233rd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Doctors on Strike will simultaneously publish their own founding document, the Declaration of Independence for Doctors, which recognizes that doctors and patients have inalienable rights; that Washington’s plan to takeover healthcare would violate the rights of doctors and patients — the very heart of the healthcare system; and that the Hippocratic Oath requires doctors to take action to prevent harm.

According to Dr. Garamoni, founder of Doctors on Strike, “Washington politicians are poised to inject a lethal dose of statism into the heart of our healthcare system — an industry already clogged with more government control than any other industry. This massive dose of statism would induce grave waves of arrhythmia — inflation, price controls, doctor shortages, waiting periods, and rationing.

We must act now to bring a halt to this leftist-led, lemming-like leap into the red sea of statism. We want the country to know — in advance — that doctors will strike if a new government healthcare program is established.

Inspired by the novel, Atlas Shrugged, doctors would shrug off the burden of statism, go on strike, refusing to participate in any new government healthcare plan, and withdraw from Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, and CHIPs. The prospect of a doctor shortage in these plans should be a wake-up call.”

Dr. Garamoni, a practicing psychologist with a background in philosophy, thinks the prospect of a doctors’ strike will mobilize voters to persuade politicians to vote against the so-called public option: “If the public knew in advance that doctors were planning to strike, they would flood politicians with angry calls, emails, and letters. Will politicians ever listen? I don’t know. Maybe we’ll soon learn the answer to another question, ‘Who is John Galt?’ Stay tuned.”
