Coral Ridge Hour Looks at Judicial Activism, High Court Vacancy on June 28 Broadcast

Fort Lauderdale, FL (June 25, 2009) –The Coral Ridge Hour shines a spotlight on dangerous judicial activism in America’s courts on the June 28 broadcast of the nationally televised program.  http://www.coralridge.org/medialibrary/default.aspx?mediaID=CRH0926_F

Activist judges have mandated homosexual “marriage” in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and California; banned the teaching of alternatives to evolutionary theory in public schools; overturned laws against barbaric abortion practices; ordered the Ten Commandments out of public places; and overstepped their proper judicial powers in many more ways.

Judges should practice “a judicial philosophy based on the Constitution and the laws as written, not based on where the whims of the culture are blowing,” said Mario Diaz, policy director for pro-family group Concerned Women for America. The June 28 program examines these two views of interpreting the U.S. Constitution in light of the approaching confirmation hearings for Supreme Court justice nominee Sonia Sotomayor.

Activist judges legislating from the bench, rather than applying existing law to decide cases, is a gross “misuse of the power of the judiciary,” states attorney Michael Farris, co-founder of the Home School Legal Defense Association. “. . . When judicial review goes too far, then judges basically say, ‘we are the legislature . . . this is what we think is right and wrong.’”

Judicial activism “has taken this nation down a road our Founders never intended,” said Coral Ridge Hour host Dr. Jerry Newcombe. “We must educate this nation about the dangers of leaving our founding principles behind. If we don’t, we will have no one to blame but ourselves when our children and grandchildren are left to pick up the pieces.”

A powerful sermon by Dr. D. James Kennedy, “A Nation Worth Fighting For,” precedes The Coral Ridge Hour news feature on judicial activism. Visit The Coral Ridge Hour station log for TV station listings and times. http://www.coralridge.org/stationfinder/default.aspx?cur=crh
