Follow on Google News | Two-Year-Old Mom Nearly Dies Giving Birth to Four Tiny BabiesFACE Foundation Urgently Needs Donations to Save More Lives
By: FACE Foundation It was almost midnight when the 2-year-old Dalmatian was rushed to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in Sorrento Valley. An ultrasound revealed an unborn puppy stuck in her birth canal. Without surgical intervention, Maya and her five unborn puppies would die. Ultimately, only four would survive the night. Maya’s owner could not afford the cost of the emergency C-section that would save the life of Maya and her puppies. Fortunately, his vet told him about the FACE Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides financial grants to pet owners who cannot afford their pet’s life-saving surgery. Even though it was almost midnight, he was quickly approved for funding, on the condition that Maya was spayed. In addition to saving the lives of beloved pets, FACE is committed to educating the public on issues pertinent to their pets’ health. This case is a great opportunity to encourage pet owners to choose spay/neuter for their pets versus letting them have a litter. Had Maya been spayed, this tragedy would have been avoided. They also want to support owners in making informed choices when selecting their new furry family members. “Backyard Breeders” should be avoided at all costs! Maya and her babies are lucky to have survived their ordeal by receiving the care they needed. Sadly, the Foundation is ceasing all financial grants for the remainder of June. With an average cost of $2,500 per animal saved, the Foundation has already spent approximately $83,000 in the first half of 2009 alone, and anticipates many more requests for support as people learn about the organization. Requests for assistance have never been greater, and they do not currently have the funds to support local pet owners’ needs. They are calling on generous pet lovers in the community to help with both financial and in-kind donations. More information on FACE and how to help can be found on their website at www.face4pets.org. End
