North-east India is bestowed with some exhilarating treasure troves of "Mother Nature." This is a virgin land comprises of eight perfect jewels of India. All these states are famous for their tribal communities and their exotic tourist spots.

North-east India is a blend of cross-cultural vibrancy. It is a region where age old traditions and culture runs parallel to the modernity. Comprising eight wonderful states namely Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim, North-east India is a land of indigenous tribal communities. The culture, tradition and lifestyle of these tribal people are the prominent attraction of the region.

If you want to explore the true color of the tribal culture and tradition than you must visit some famous tribal villages of the region like Kohima village and Shangnyu village in Nagaland or Ziro and Doporijo in Arunachal Pradesh or Garo and Khasi hills of Meghalaya will give you an insightful view of the various tribal communities of these states. A short trip to these tribal villages will enable you to reveal the myths and mysteries related to tribal people.  

If you are a nature lover than you must visit the Kaziranga National Park, a World Heritage Site, Manas  and Namdahapa Wildlife Sanctuary. These are great place to peep into the wild world of India's rare and diverse flora and fauna. Along with these wildlife sanctuaries you can also see State zoo cum Botanical garden in Assam, Eco park and Botanical garden in Meghalaya etc which has a good collection of rare species of plants and wild animals.

Beside a nature's lover, if you are an adventure enthusiasts than it is advisable for you to visit Pasighat and Along of Arunachal Pradesh famous for rafting, Kayaking and angling on hilly rivers like Siang and Siyom. If you want to for short trekking or mountaineering than you must visit Sikkim. This state is known as the trekker's paradise and has abundance of short treks in its kitty. Every year thousands of both amateur and expert mountaineers comes to this tiny state to conquer the highest mountain peak of India known as Kanchenjunga peak.

Another important tourist attraction of North east India is the Majuli. It is a hot bio-diversity zone of  the region, situated amidst the Brahmaputra river, 20 km away from Jorhat in Assam. This tiny island has now emerged as an eco-tourism destination. It is also famous as a cultural hub of Assamese neo-vaishnavite culture which was started by a 15th century saint named Srimanta  Sankerdeva. This island is the largest fresh water island in the entire South-east Asia and has approximately 24 satras. These satras are the repository of various antique items of cultural significance.

Even North-east India has no dearth of pilgrimage sites. Tawang monastery in Arunachal Pradesh is the oldest monastery in India. It is one of the most revered sites of Buddhist people. Another most significant pilgrimage site is Kamakhya temple. Dedicated to Mother Goddess, this Shakti temple is built on the Nilachal hill in the western part of Guwahati in Assam. As North-east India has a large number of Christan people. So, we can find some beautiful churches in the territory of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland. Some renowned churches of the region are Shillong Cathedral, the Mawkhar Presbyterian Church, Baptist Church of Mizoram and many more.

Along with these sacred places, you can even tour to some historic monuments and ruins of several Kingdoms of the region. For instance, if you visit Assam, here you will get to see ruins of Ahom Kingdoms who had successfully ruled this state for almost 600 years. Even you can view the ruins of Kachari kingdom near Khaspur in Cachar district of South Assam. To satisfy your quest about royal history of Northeast India, you can visit some important museums namely State Museum of Assam, State Museum of Meghalaya and State Museum of Nagaland etc which has great collection of prehistoric antiques.

Even, this region has no scarcity of  picturesque picnic spots. There are several waterfalls dotted in the region like Elephant falls and Bishop falls in Meghalaya where you can enjoy a picnic amidst the serene beauty of the nature.
