June 3, 2009 - PRLog -- For most Christian parents, passing their faith and beliefs along to their children is among their most significant goals. They want their children to learn how to show godly love for others and how to apply biblical values to their everyday lives. However, when kids reach school-age, and have new ideas and activities vying for their attention, it can be difficult for parents to find the time to instill those Christian values in them. However, there is one way that parents can begin to teach biblical lessons to today's youth and that is with a new Christian adventure novel, The Lion Tree.

Written by Christian children's author and speaker Ruth Willms, The Lion Tree tells the story of four missionary kids who are sent to live with their grandparents in Canada while their parents go help the struggling people of war-torn Afghanistan.  When their dad's plane mysteriously disappears and a local bank robbery turns their friends against them, the children solve the mystery and help save their family by following lessons they've learned from Bible stories and applying them to their own lives. The 117-page novel comes with a five-day devotional guide that includes family discussion questions and Bible verses to help children discover the biblical truths in The Lion Tree and apply them to their own lives.

Willms was inspired to write The Lion Tree after meeting several Christian parents who felt they didn't have the tools or the time necessary to teach their children about the Bible. "Christian parents often believe they have to rely on the church or clubs to teach their children about God because they don't know where to start at home," Willms says. "The Lion Tree and accompanying devotional guide gives parents an easy springboard into topics like why bad things happen to people who follow Jesus, and it creates openings for parents to tell their children about their own faith experiences."

The book and accompanying devotional guide can be used in a family or classroom setting and can help teach children:

- Practical ways to apply biblical truths to everyday circumstances
- How to get involved with Christian missions, no matter where they live or how old they are
- Fundamental concepts of evangelical Christianity

Willms is also the author of A Christmas Present for Goliath, the biblical Christmas story retold through the eyes of a camel, which was recently featured in the Calgary Herald. Willms is available for speaking engagements at churches and schools in the Calgary area. Her parenting seminars focus on practical ways parents can make God’s love real to their children. Additionally, Willms leads interactive workshops for children based on A Christmas Present for Goliath and The Lion Tree.
