Baskin Robbins opens 100th store in UAE

May 19, 2009 - PRLog -- The GICC is the exclusive licensee for Baskin Robbins for the entire Gulf region. The brand enjoys 90 per cent of ice cream parlour segments in the region, Loya told Khaleej Times after the inauguration of it’s 100th store in the UAE at the Dubai Marina Mall. Also present on the occasion were Galadari Brothers group executive Director Sharif Khoory and Baskin Robbins Managing Director, Middle East, Europe & South Asia John Verghese.

The GICC has 426 stores in the region and next store will be opened Al Ain on Monday. In December last year it opened sis stores in the region while during the last five years number of stores increased from 200 to 426.

He said, “Saudi Arabia is the big-gest market in terms of sales as it contributes 45 per cent while UAE is the second with 30per cent share. In Saudi Arabia the GICC has about 209 stores as of today, in Qatar 40, Kuwait has 45, 20 in Bahrain and 12 in Oman. The year three more will be opened in Oman,”

Ice cream stores, Loya said, covers 85 per cent of core business and rest of the 15 per cent comes from super markets and hotels, Around 70 percent of region’s hotels have Baskin Robbins flavours, he informed.

“We are the only brand which goes with 1200 flavours of ice cream in its library and you will have 31 flavours ar every store,” said Loya.

Galadari group CEO Rajesh Thapar said, “With a 25 percent year-on-year growth, GICC is among the star performers group, What is even more encouraging is that 2009 looks as if it will be even more exciting with new stores planned across the region. The company will also diversify it’s portfolio by opening new store for-mats such as the Baskin Robbins Café and Baskin Robbins Express.”
