May 11, 2009 - PRLog -- Flagpoles, commercial signs and ornamental plantings all tend to have something in common…they can all benefit immensely from the installation of a floodlight. In fact, anyone hoping to properly display a flag after sunset is supposed to illuminate the pole and the flag with a floodlight. Additionally, many storefronts and signs cannot be seen after dark without the use of a floodlight as well. The problem is that it is often difficult to get the wiring required for such a fixture to the location in which it is needed. For example, a commercial sign in front of a business may have a wide swath of driveway and parking that would have to be dug up in order to provide safe and adequate electricity.

Is there a solution? Luckily, solar technologies have advanced to the point that solar floodlight fixtures are widely and readily available. While some consumers may not think that solar lighting has the same capabilities as hard wired fixtures, the reality is that they are incredibly competitive with the traditional fluorescent bulbs, with the added bonus of a significantly longer life span. That is because solar floodlights utilize LED bulbs which cannot burn out and tend to require maintenance every few years rather than every few months.

Today’s solar floodlights can be found in single or multiple bulb configurations, meaning they can be used in a decorative or functional application. For instance, an island in a drive or parking area could be lit by a single three or four bulb floodlight for a highly decorative effect. The same three or four bulb fixture might also be installed as a security measure in a dark portion or a homeowner’s back yard or used to illuminate a flagpole.
Some stadium or even horse riding rings have also begun to use the brilliant lighting that a few solar floodlights can provide.

Why are so many opting for this? Apart from the incredible ease of installation, which usually requires little more than a standard screwdriver or hammer, they are also incredibly affordable. They do not need the professional services of an electrician – which could easily add hundreds of dollars to a simple lighting design job, they will have no further expense apart from the occasional bulb replacement and they place absolutely no strain on the environment since they use only sunlight for their operation.
