Follow on Google News | The Rise of Hypertension among ChildrenIn America, it has recently been revealed that more and more children and adolescents are being diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension) and are being prescribed medication in order to control it.
By: John Kaduwanema It is quite worrying that increasing numbers of children are being diagnosed with chronic conditions that adults suffer from and are being prescribed the same medications used to treat these conditions. A study in the US has shown that the number of adolescents and children being prescribed medicines to treat high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol and diabetes increased by more than 15% from 2004 to 2007. Whilst some researchers say that the increase in prescribed drugs is the result of increased awareness of these chronic conditions amongst children, there can be no disputing that these conditions are existent amongst children due to poor diets and general health. This certainly seems to be the case when the statistics show that close 20% of children and adolescents are now overweight or obese. Perhaps hypertension is becoming a family wide concern, with blood pressure monitoring becoming a family wide routine. There are no limitations to age when using automated blood pressure monitors therefore there is no reason why children and adolescents can’t be tested using the same monitors used by their parents or grandparents. http://children.webmd.com/ http://www.easierlivingwarehouse.co.uk/ http://www.easierlivingwarehouse.co.uk/ # # # This Article is brought to you by the Easier Living Warehouse , UK's premier supplier of Mobility equipment such as Car Ramps ,Mobility Aids ,Walking Sticks and Wheelchair Ramps .
