Dancer Terry Beeman Interviews with JigTV.com About the Politics of Dance, Staying in Dancing Shape, and Teaching.

April 28, 2009 - PRLog -- Terry Beeman is a renowned choreographer, dancer, director and master teacher known worldwide by the dance community.  He has appeared in commercials from Radio Shack, to Visa, to Miller Beer.  He also has appeared in movies like "Show Girls" and "Eraser" in dance rolls.  Terry has toured with Paula Abdul, Whitney Houston, and other huge artists.  He has worked on many award shows including  4 Academy Awards, 2 MTV Awards, and the Grammys.  Currently he is the master teacher at Debbie Allen's dance studio in New York.

During his dancer interview Terry says one of the most important things to a dancer's success is networking.  Though he hates to say it, politics are the same everywhere, its a matter of who you know to getting a good break.  Many amazing dancers are still struggling to make it because they haven't yet gotten in with the right circle.  To be in with a well known dance choreographer is key because at any given time you can be thrown into a huge gig at almost any time.

As important as it is to stay in shape through classes, even online dance class, Terry highly recommends doing all forms of exercise to stay in shape.  In particular he emphasized the importance of doing yoga to tone and lift the core even more so than ballet class.  The balancing techniques learned through ballet are all upright, while in yoga you are put in all sorts of positions which strengthen the core in a number of different ways.  This is not to undercut the importance of doing ballet and working hard during them.  He encourages the online dance community to kick their own butts so that the teacher doesn't have to.

As a teacher Terry draws inspiration from what he has to work with.  The students themselves inspire him to be the best teacher he can be.  When he has a good base of students, they inspire him to come up with something good for them to practice on.

For some reason people are afraid of Terry Beeman, though he never lifts his leg in class.  Maybe it's his crazy yoga poses he does in classes, he doesn't understand why people are afraid of him.  Possibly it is because he is so renowned that people are intimidated to be in his presence.
