April 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Think about the word Computer Repair for a second...
The interesting thing about Computer Repair is that the average consumer does not know about it.
This puts us in a dilemma... How do we teach the "average consumer" about the Computer Repair Service!
We have to find a proper way to educate the average consumer on how to commit to calling a Computer Repair "guy" or company, then make them feel safe or at least they are getting a good deal.
I was watching a very interesting www.youtube.com video on Computer Repair rip offs.
What a Computer Repair Tech did was take out a Memory Stick.
Okay simple problem. When I was in Yale, the IT staff there did not know what the problem with my client’s machine was? It happened to be that she was missing a memory chip. I figured that out in approximately 2 Minutes. The whole Computer Repair Staff in YALE University could not figure that one out.
Anyway, on the youtube.com video, the newscast secretly called approximately ten or more techs to come in and fix the problem.
Only three Computer Repair companies were able to fix it. One company actually came and said that the computer had to be "shipped to Iceland to cool the CPU long enough for the computer to work." That would cost $2000. I could not believe that! It was crazy for me to watch the poor consumer get ripped off by this Computer Repair Guy.
It was also interesting that most of the Computer Repair Techs were trying to upsell the consumer with new computers.
"The motherboard is blown"
"The power supply is blown"
Blah, Blah, Blah
It came to me then and there.
Our web-site needs to start educating the consumer about Computer Repair before we actually send in a tech or do a remote login.
We need to make sure that the average consumer knows through maybe Power Point presentations or classes. What it takes to fix and use a computer properly. This is why we are trying to teach Computer Repair.
I mean we of course have to be honest and ethical as a Computer Repair company when going to fix someone's problem if they already have a repair that is needed, but we feel that the more people we actually teach about Computer Repair the more educated we are about keeping customer retention and not ending up on some television show virtually crippling everything a Computer Repair tech would stand for.
