Las Vegas, NV- In times where state and federal budgets are waning in the midst of an economic meltdown, one company is working to provide opportunities to a community often overlooked as a resource.

March 23, 2009 - PRLog -- “Disability is a social outcome, and therefore it is up to society to equip, educate and empower the disabled community at large to provide them with the same opportunities,” says Trent McCallson, founder and CEO of Western Assistive Technology Consulting.  WATC started as a consulting firm with the goal of helping suppliers understand and implement methods of providing a higher level of service and knowledge for underserved communities. “I soon realized that as a consultant, I was not capable of instilling my vision into a company that isn’t mine, so I worked to forge partnerships that were conducive to that vision,” says McCallson, a certified rehabilitation specialist and 17 year veteran of the industry. “I think that it’s no coincidence that 80 percent of the world’s disabled population lives in chronic poverty and in a nation that is among the wealthiest, we have a tremendous opportunity to introduce a whole new population into the job market. Why outsource jobs?” Western Assistive Technology Consulting is working with community resources to come up with solutions by finding providers who share an interest in high quality healthcare, a sense of community responsibility and the organizational capacity to make a difference.

Our approach works because it is collaborative and is solution focused, not product focused. This allows us maximize design efficiency and to provide our clients the best products and services, which saves the healthcare system money at the same time.

The approach is so successful that a second location will open in Reno, NV in April. Western Assistive Technology is also in talks with a regional company that shares their vision and committment and will give Western the opportunity to introduce their unique brand of service excellence to 5 additional locations across Arizona and California.
