March 5, 2009 - PRLog -- The sand on Margate main beach is being pushed around and shaped into jumps and whoops etc by the Ovenden Plant machines for the weekends QRA Margate Big Sky Beach Cross in readiness for close to 100 Youth/Adult Youth Quad and Adult Solo riders to compete on. Racing takes place on both Saturday and Sunday and action gets underway at 10am both days. To spectate is FREE and the backdrop to the action on the beach is a fairground, market stalls and the town of Margate itself.

This is the fourth Beach Cross event the QRA has put on with Margate Town Partnership and it attracted over 15,000 spectators to the resort last February. Those who do miss it will be able to catch it on DVD and TV as the whole event is being filmed.

One rider who is never camera shy is Honda mounted, multi and current British Quad Champion Paul Winrow, winner of the event back in February 08 and still brushing sand off his Quad after finishing 5th at last weekends Le Touquet Beach race in France, with 490 riders behind him. He also posted the fastest lap of the gruelling three hour event, is once again heading the line up.

He has however several riders gunning for his QRA Margate crown. One guy fresh from training in the USA and after securing the first domestic championship of 2009, the ACU British Quad Supercross championship at the 02 Arena in London is works KTM team rider Paul Holmes. The enthusiastic rider from Harrogate will be looking to put a psychological point on Winrows number 1 plate before this years ACU British Quad championship gets underway in a few weeks time.

Ricky Tordoff on his ATV World Polaris and Ben Richmond on his ATV World KTM are also no slouches when it comes to racing in the sand and the duo from Halifax have the experience to be there when it matters. But the dark horse for many will be the youngster from Oxford who was victorious at the first Margate event in 2007 and he is Paul Winrows team mate, Stefan Murphy. He, like Winrow, has had an outing already on the sand at Le Touquet when a certain top twenty position was taken from him when mechanical gremlins struck.

Winrow is also riding in the Solo class races with local lad Sam Holloway, who has played in the Margate sand from a boy to man, is looking to hold on to the title he was proud to collect in 2008.

In addition to the adult classes, the 200/250cc Youth Quads join the event and will be taking their first steps on the Kent seaside resorts golden sands. With Ameelie Miller and team mate Jak Griffiths of Jaks Quads and Conor Langton, Oliver Drabble, Luke Brown, Daniel Lewis and co looking to lift the first youth title.

Three class races each day with practise and Quad Qualifier races on Saturday morning. In addition to the three races each class on Sunday there will be the Dash For Cash finals in the Adult Quads and Solo to conclude the weekend.

One other title up for grabs is the Holeshot King Of Margate which was acquired by Mr Foulkes so keep an eye out for number 0, he might just be able to do it again........

Event hotline is 07774 434468. See you there............................
