Seven local San Diego kickers sign letter-of-intent to play college football

Feb. 20, 2009 - PRLog -- SAN DIEGO, CA – Feb. 18, 2009 – Seven San Diego area high school athletes have each signed a letter-of-intent to play college football, as announced by The Kicking System. The Kicking System, along with its professional staff, will honor these students at a luncheon Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., at the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.

The seven honorees are:
·      Jason Myers – Mater Dei High School, CA – Signed with Marist College

·      Brynmor Hughes – St. Augustine High School, CA – Signed with Navy

·      Lee Abelkop – La Jolla High School, CA – Signed with University of San Diego

·      Brock Miller – Santa Fe Christian High School, CA – Signed with Southern Utah

·      Ethan Swerdlow – La Jolla High School, CA – Signed with Lafayette College

·      Ari Johnson – Roosevelt High School, CA – Signed with Grambling State University

·      Briton Forester – Palomar Community College, CA – Signed with University of Arkansas


“I’m proud of the entire class. I remember when they were all underclassman coming through the ranks. They were all working hard at mastering their technique, and all have become very talented kickers. I will enjoy watching them through college,” said John Matich, director of The Kicking System.


Southern California and San Diego have always been a standout for recruiting kicking talent. More local students are expected to sign with colleges in the upcoming weeks.


Coach Matich and The Kicking System have gained a reputation among many top college football programs as the most elite football kicking development system in the country.

The Kicking System and John Matich bring extensive knowledge and experience to kicking development. Matich is a former Minnesota Vikings kicker, was the second lead scorer in Boston College football history, and is a former kicker of the San Diego Shockwave (NIFL). He and his staff of professional coaches design year-round programs for both group and individual training.
