Jan. 29, 2009 - PRLog -- NH Architect Jeremy Bonin and Custom Home Builder Jay Tucker are teaming up to offer a Free Seminar and Open House on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Best Western Sunapee Lake Lodge, Newbury, New Hampshire, located next to the Mt. Sunapee Ski Area.  The Free Seminar will feature presentations on green home design and construction, as well as SIP panels and solar and geothermal technologies.  An Open House at a nearby Timberpeg® timber frame home, built by Tucker’s company, Old Hampshire Designs, will follow the seminar.

Architect Jeremy Bonin, AIA NCARB LEED AP, of Bonin Architects & Associates, PLLC, Claremont, NH, will present the topic “Green Home Design”, which will help homeowners start thinking about their energy efficient home design and introduce green building materials and systems that can significantly impact a home’s energy usage.

For those interested in timber framing, a specialty in green building, Jay Tucker will present the seminar topic “Timber Frame Homes”, showcasing the types of timber frame systems commonly used, wood species and their features and benefits, timber frame joinery, and typical costs involved.  Tucker will also discuss Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) and their benefits.

Renewable energy sources are growing in popularity among homeowners.  Bob Partridge of Partridge Family Heating, Lebanon, NH, will discuss solar and geothermal heating systems as well as the costs and returns on investment for each.

Kimberly Bonin, Executive Project Manager of Bonin Architects & Associates, anticipates a great turnout for the seminar.  “In today’s economy, many people are taking the initiative to become educated about renewable energy options and sustainable design,” Bonin explains. “This seminar will encompass items such as energy efficient technologies utilized in the design process, and renewable resources. Questions are always encouraged.”

An Open House will be held at a nearby Timberpeg timber frame home which features SIP panels, solar and geothermal systems.  Describing the energy efficiency of the 2100 square foot home, Tucker states, “The homeowner is very environmentally-conscious and wanted to build a home that is both beautiful and highly energy efficient.  With a timber frame, structural insulated panels, and renewable energy systems we easily accomplished that goal.”

Anyone interested in building a green home is urged to attend.  Both the seminar and open house are free with registration.  Register at www.boninarchitects.com or by calling 603-504-6009.
