Delta Connection Academy congratulates the Jacksonville University Flight Team for placing second in the Region IX National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference

(www.deltaconnectionacademy.com) – Delta Connection Academy congratulates the Jacksonville University Flight Team for placing second in the Region IX National Intercollegiate Flying Association’s (NIFA) Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON), held at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach on October 28th – November 1, 2008.

Since 1996, Delta Connection Academy has been the flight training partner for Jacksonville University, providing certificated flight instructors and aircraft to students seeking a career in aviation. The 18-member flight team returned home with twenty-nine individual trophies including the all-around top female contestant award.

The Jacksonville University Flight Team (JUFT) will join the top 30 teams in the nation at the SAFECON nationals where the JUFT recently won the Loening Trophy, awarded to the outstanding collegiate aviation program in the nation.

“Delta Connection Academy is proud to be a part of JUFT success” said Delta Connection Academy President Doug Blissit. “We congratulate all the students and wish them great success as they head to nationals.”

The 18-member team trained by Delta Connection Academy includes Jonathon Alvirde, Michael Beattie, Joseph Collura, Mike Eisenhardt, Jesse Elliott, Sarah Christenbury, Michael Cerrato-Yeomans, Jason Closky, Ben Fambrough, Jon Greenwood, Brent Knoblauch, Sarah Morris, Robert Murante, Denis Ndregjoni, Christopher O’Connell, Brian Rendini, Kevin Sawyer, and Michael Todd.

“The success of our team is a testament to the dedication and hard work of team advisors and members,” said Juan Merkt, director of Jacksonville University Aeronautics. “It also speaks volumes for the quality of the training that students receive at Jacksonville University through Delta Connection Academy.”

Delta Connection Academy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, operates a fleet of more than 96 aircraft, including the latest in technically advanced aircraft with its fleet of 34 new Cirrus SR-20 G2 aircraft and its Level 3 Advanced Aircraft Training Devices and Level 6 Flight Training Devices. The Academy has trained students from 90 different countries and has placed pilots with more than 30 airlines including, but not limited to, all Delta Connection carriers, American Eagle Airlines, ExpressJet Airlines and Cape Air/Nantucket Airlines. In addition to its main campus at the Orlando/Sanford International Airport, the Academy is the flight-training partner for three colleges and universities across the United States and has a total enrollment of more than 750 flight students.
