Halal meat available on subs at Detroit WSU Blimpies

Nov. 15, 2008 - PRLog -- If you’re like me, and you prefer to eat Halal meat on a sandwich you don't have to go far. Blimpies near Wayne State University serves a variety of Halal meat. The Halal meat they offer is turkey, turkey bacon, corned beef, and roast beef. It’s a relief for me because I don’t have to drive to Dearborn to get a Halal meat sandwich. I just have to drive to midtown Detroit to enjoy my favorite Halal meat subs.

Apparently, the owner of this Blimpies franchise in Detroit eats Halal meat on a daily basis. In addition, thought it would be a great idea to offer it on the menu. WSU in Detroit has a lot of student and faulty who are practicing Muslims and they only eat Halal meat. Which leaves the other sub shops in the area out of luck. Knowing that there is a high demand in Detroit for Halal meat it makes me wonder why other restaurants don’t serve Halal meat. My favorite sub is the Halal corned beef on marble rye grilled Panini style.

In case you’re wondering what Halal meat is I will explain. Halal meat is to make meat permissible, an animal or poultry has to be slaughtered in a ritual way known as Zibah.
1. An animal should not be dead prior to slaughter.
2. A Muslim should perform slaughter.
3. Any flowing blood of the carcass should be completely drained.

Up until recently, several restaurants in Dearborn just started serving Halal meat. Which comes as a surprise seeing that Dearborn has a large populous of Muslims who will only eat meat slaughtered in Halal tradition. The Blimpies owner informed me he sells on average 50 pounds of Halal meat a week. I didn’t realize how popular Halal meat subs are in Detroit until I discovered this Blimpies.
