By: Gary Payne Anti-Bullying week – A preventative measures programme is launched A new initiative in personal safety and communication skills for young people has been successfully developed and is now ready for National deployment through schools, sports and community groups. Anti-Bullying week is a time of dedicated action to solving the problem that we are all fearful off. Life Skills for Children is the answer. The Life Skills for Children programme educates young people in those basic skills they require to know the difference between right and wrong, increase their personal safety and learn how to communicate correctly with those around them both at home and in school. The programme is easy for children of all ages and abilities to grasp, and to teach to younger children. The success of the Kids Teach Kids element is the power of the peer group and the effect of positive role models (that is the older child). Life Skills for Children was created to complement a number of government initiatives including Every Child Matters and Healthy Schools, and can be implemented during general class time, or as part of a school’s PE, PSHE or drama curriculum. It also aligns with the national drive to establish leadership and skills opportunities for children. The Life Skills programme has been piloted successfully at schools, sports and community groups in Luton and Buckinghamshire where the young people have used the new skills they have developed to increase their performance and behavior at school, in sport and within their communities. The programme is now ready for National deployment. “This is a non-physical approach to personal safety, involving awareness skills and protective behaviours,” Over the three and a half year development period for the programme the Life Skills team have dedicated all of their resources to making sure Life Skills complies too Government initiatives. Various members of the Government have publically declared their desire to invest energy into preventive measures training courses which reduce the amount of youth related crime we are all subjected to. Life Skills for Children has established a good working relationship with MAMAA (Mothers Against Murder and Aggression) and together we have attended numerous meetings with ministers to discuss problem solving solutions to tackle youth related crime. Unfortunately the Government is all talk and very little action, so with the support of thousands of people that have visited our web site and joined our on line poll we are promoting the Life Skills for Children course to over 8 million young people in this country from as little as £1.25 per child. -ends- Enquiries: Catriona Armor, Programme Manager Gary Payne, Programme Director t: 01908 610 828 m : 07725 481769 Notes for the Editor: Life Skills for Children is a specialist training company that designs and delivers child friendly training programmes that aims to make a positive difference in children’s lives What is it? • A preventative measures programme for children aged 5 -16 years old of all physical abilities • A non-physical programme teaching children personal safety and communication skills • Creates better communication between teachers, children and their parents • Deployed Nationally in Primary and Secondary schools as part of the PSHE and PE curriculum • Fits with Every Child Matters and Every Parent Matters • Fits with Healthy School, emotional and well being initiatives 4.1 support of vulnerable individual 4.2 Clear leadership 4.5 Combating stigma and Discrimination 4.6 Bullying Policies 4.8 Confidence and self esteem • Fits with schools sports participation initiatives • Fits with cross-curriculum dimensions For additional information please visit www.lifeskillsforchildren.co.uk # # # Life Skills for Children provide educational programmes for Children aged 5-16 years in social responsibility, knife awareness, personal safety and communication skills.
