Nov. 12, 2008 - PRLog -- The Global Supply Chain Council, Asia’s leading professional organization, announced the winners of its 2008 China Supply Chain & Logistics Awards, the CHaINA Awards, last Thursday night, November 6 in Shanghai.

For the fourth year in row, the Council presented its CHaINA Awards to celebrate best practices and superior achievements that are enabled by supply chain management in China.

Hosted by Master of Ceremony Warwick John Fahy, over 120 supply chain senior executives gathered to give recognition and compliments to five outstanding winners at a prestigious gala dinner held at the Shanghai Marriott Hotel on November 6.

While other awards tend to focus on service providers, the CHaINA Awards are aimed to recognize and applaud the end-users and practitioners of the industry. Many of the nominations are jointly submitted between the manufacturers, retailers and their service providers.

The selection process is done in a totally sponsorship-free environment with an independent board of senior supply chain professionals based in China and advisors to the Council.

The Best Supply Chain IT Solution for China was given to Infor for the recent implementation of the warehousing management solution (WMS) at PG Logistics distribution center in Suzhou. PG Logistics had then successfully applied Infor WMS in its logistics warehousing business in Hefei and Guangzhou involving customers such as Phillips, Unilever, Kraft Foods, Samsung Electronics and P&G.

The Award for China's Supply Chain Executive of the Year went to Frank Tonna, who has been playing an active role in assessing the readiness of the China market for supply chain change via pallet pooling at CHEP.

The Training Education and Development Award for China was for Schenker China for a Sales Leadership Program called Savages. The initiative helped advancing supply chain knowledge and expertise in Schenker and contributed to the facilitation of changes in the sales organization, retention of star performers and capitalization of intellectual assets.

The award for the Best 3PL Supply Chain Provider was presented to CEVA Logistics for its recent APAC LLP Program at Eaton. Under the LLP programme, CEVA rolled out an extensive road network using its own fleet for Eaton connecting the plants, different divisions and all Eaton customers all across China.

The Award for Best Supply Chain Consulting Partner in China was awarded for the second time to Accenture for the development of Inbev China Sourcing (ICS). With the help of Accenture, ICS has become a 10+ FTE organization, covered functions from sourcing, logistics to quality control, and delivered significant saving benefit (>Euro 30 million) to the company.

Dow Chemical received the top Supply Chain Operational Excellence Award this year for its outstanding supply chain initiatives in China. In an effort to better align the organization with Dow’s corporate strategy theme of Drive Financial Discipline and Low-Cost-To-Serve (LCTS), the Supply Chain Expertise Center (SCEC) was established in Asia. The team provides customized local solutions directly to Dow’s businesses to support growth efforts and mega capital projects in China and Thailand, and achieve its LCTS goals.

The awards ceremony took place during CHaINA ‘08, China’s largest supply chain event that included over 75 multiple concurrent conferences, workshops and an exhibition floor. The event was attended by over 300 delegates. For more info, visit the event page at http://www.supplychain.cn/en/cev/354
