Follow on Google News | Daylight Savings Time ends. Have you changed the batteries in your smoke detectors?Daylight Savings Time is over for another year. Now is a great time to do some routine maintenance to the safety items around your home that could save you money, and possibly save a life in the future.
By: Arnold E. Harner H & R Fire and Safety of Cartersville Georgia advises that this is a great time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Having trouble figuring out how to accomplish that? H & R Fire and Safety has all the parts and service help you need to get things working again. They also recommend checking your fire extinguishers. It's a good idea to check them monthly just to be safe. It's easy and only takes a minute. First, check to make sure the tamper seal around the pull pin is intact and not broken. Second, make sure the needle on the gauge is still in "the green". Third, check to see if there are any visible signs of damage or rust. If one or more of these conditions exist, (a broken tamper seal, the gauge needle is out of "the green" area, or there is visible damage or rust), H & R Fire and safety strongly suggest taking your fire extinguisher to the nearest licensed dealer to have it checked out. Most legitimate dealers will do this at little or no charge. You should be able to find one in your local yellow pages, or if you live in Georgia check out GAFSED (Georgia Association of Fire Safety Equipment Dealers). If outside Georgia, contact NAFED (National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors) # # # H & R Fire and Safety is your one-stop resource for all types of fire extinguishers, service and safety supplies. Serving N.W. Georgia for over 30 years they offer SCBA service and resturant systems too. End
