Thecus® N3200 Scores 4 Out of 5 at MacUser Magazine

Thecus® N3200 Scores 4 Out of 5 at MacUser Magazine "An excellent choice for network storage at home"

Nov. 4, 2008 - PRLog -- In the world of 3-bay NAS units, the Thecus® N3200 is the king of the hill. In their September 2008 issue, MacUser Magazine brought the N3200 in-house for testing, and at the end of it all, found that the N3200 really does deliver the goods, awarding it a final score of 4 out of 5, citing RAID 5 support, easily removable disks, a robust case, and a wide range of services!

The plethora of useful software included with the N3200 really impressed editors: "There’s more to network attached storage than the hardware, of course, and this is where Thecus excelled with the N299 by enabling a wide range of functions through software. Happily, the N3200 has those same features. Its iTunes server allows you to store music on it and access it as a shared iTunes Library from any Mac or PC on the network. Its DNLA-compliant media server means you can stream music, video and images to any DNLA device that’s connected to your network. Furthermore, its Web Surveillance Server enables you to attach a USB webcam and monitor the room in which the N3200 is located from any web browser. There’s also a Photo Web Server, which allows you to upload images and share them over the network.”

The N3200 shows that technology doesn’t have to be complicated to work well: "The web browser-based configuration pages for the N3200 are detailed, allowing you to fine-tune settings such as RAID configuration, security, shared folders and all of the media features mentioned above. It’s the most intuitive and easiest-to-use browser configuration system we’ve yet come across, and while you could leave many settings at their default and use the N3200 very happily, the ability to drill down and configure detailed settings is extremely useful."

The conclusion? "The Thecus® N3200 has a great deal going for it: its support for RAID 5, easily removable disks, robust case and support for as wide a range of sharing services as you could wish for makes it an excellent choice for network storage at home. You could also use it, ISP permitting, for web and FTP serving. If only Time Machine supported backing up data over a network, it would be a brilliant multi-Mac solution for that, too."
