Hope Stands Up For 38 Million Of The World's Poor

I'd arrived on Wall Street in 1999 and spent 2 years learning how to structure international finance. I wanted the American Dream and to take my company public, however, I wanted to demonstrate how you could 'do good and do well'. I wanted to transform the American Dream for the next century. I attracted advisors that liked my audacity and recognized my ambition was greater than just for myself or investors.

In 2000 I was briefed at the United Nations on the Millenium Development Goals and the  opportunity to bring about large scale transformation was very exciting. Many technology companies saw the need for their expertise however, they wanted a fast return and there was no mechanism or budget to provide that.

In November 2001 the CIA Infectious Diseases report on Africa given to International Crisis Group and published as 'HIV/AIDS as a Security Issue'. In my opinion, it is still the best report that deals will the profound effect on both generations.

I was deeply affected by the scale of the pandemic and the level of suffering.  It was obvious to see that with 5,000 workers dying every day in their 30's and 40's that the number of children orphaned and abandoned would grow exponentially from 13 million and that without a continent wide Solution - Health, Energy, Economic and Homeland Security would be threatened as well.

I realized that if not me then who?
My talent had been recognized by countless academics and officials however, for most pioneers in their field, large scale funding takes years to achieve and this HIV/AIDS pandemic was worsening by the day.

November 2001 to October 2008 seems like a lifetime...the battles I've fought... the indifference and ignorance I've worked to overcome..
The Public sector budget increases fought so that vital benchmarks could be leveraged.  The investors and sponsors I've mobilized to lead through the war..... the death threats, racism and sexism I've endured..... could have easily overwhelmed someone who lives their life by sight...

I am blessed to live my life by faith.
