This is one of the most prestigious venues I have set foot in, says bandleader, pianist and lead singer Papo Ortega. We are ecstatic that NJPAC called us back to kick off their Latin Jazz Weekend at the end of October. “This is incredible, Cubanoson headlines Friday, Paquito D’Rivera on Saturday and Milton Nascimento on Sunday. To be in the same sentence as these artists is a sign of great things to come.” Papo continued by stating Cubanoson will be performing at the WestGate Lounge in Nyack in November and that they will be headlining at the Emelin Theatre in Westchester in December, 2008. Cubanoson is also set to kick off the 2009 New York City’s Salsa Congress on September 3rd, 2009. Papo says, “there are so many other hosts and Djs around the world playing our music, and maintaining our songs on their playlists that the list is too extensive to name but adds, Cubanoson’s success is attributed to the many great hosts and DJs around the globe that have embraced our music.” When asked if Cubanoson would be going overseas, Papo said “we have been actively working with promoters trying to bring the orchestra to Europe and we are hopeful to perform in the great European countries that have supported us, Germany, England, Switzerland, Italy and France, to name a few. We are also trying to do a Canadian tour in 2009.” Support for the orchestra has been overwhelming and despite not being signed by a major label, independently have sold several thousand Cds around the world. What’s next for Cubanoson? Any new recordings? Papo Ortega humbly stated there are original songs ready for our next project, which is slated for recording late 2009. “We are hopeful that some label will recognize our music and enjoin us in our second recording. For now we continue to perform and make people dance, this is what we like to do, it makes us and dancers very happy.” When asked for any last words? Papo replied, “I want to thank all of the hosts, Djs, promoters, friends, family and supporters for keeping our music going; and I especially want to thank all of Cubanoson’s current and past musicians for continuing to perform and maintaining the professional Cuban dance orchestra we are.” For news and events you may register at http://www.cubanoson.com or http://www.myspace.com/ # # # Cubanoson is a traditional Cuban dance orchestra as created by pianist, Leonel “Papo” Ortega.
