PRLog -- Dr. Alan Butt Philip is a Jean Monnet Reader in European integration for the University of Bath. He has held this position for twenty of his thirty years of service within the university. From 1975-1978, Dr. Butt Philip was a research fellow and in 1975, he became a lecturer. In 1978, he was promoted to senior lecturer and remained in that position until 1988, when he accepted his present role. Prior to joining the University of Bath, Dr. Butt Philip held positions as financial controller for ICFC Ltd., assistant press officer to the Liberal Party and was in charge of the Welsh desk for the BBC General Election coverage of 1970. He has also served as an external examiner for several universities, including Oxford, the London School of Economics and the University of Wales, and as a visiting professor at the University of Richmond, Virginia, the University of Virginia and Charles University, Prague. Dr. Butt Philip has an equally exemplary record of academic achievement on a personal level and attended Eton College, St John's College and Nuffield College, Oxford, earning four A levels in economics, history, ancient history and Greek. He received a BA in politics, philosophy and economics with first class honors, as well as a DPhil for his thesis on Nationalism in Welsh Politics. Dr. Butt Philip is the author of numerous books and academic journals, including The Welsh Question, Accountability in the European Union and Reforming the European Union. He is fluent in English and French, speaks some German and Welsh, and is active in several fine arts organizations. Dr. Butt Philip is a long-standing member of the Eton and St John's College choirs and several church choirs, plays piano, harpsichord and violin, and enjoys history, travel and stamp collecting.
